The literature is "at bottom a criticism of life". I agree with the statement because

 One of the stories that I read was "The Princess and The Tin Box". James Thurber

 Shows the princess judge the gift.

The plot of this story is when the princess got older she was supposed to get

 married. First the princess had to choose a gift. Her character is ambitious and greedy.

 She chooses a jewel box made of Platinum and sapphires. The other gift, a Tin Box, was

 made of mineral substance found in rocks. The last prince was poor with a good heart.

 They judge only how the gift is worthy which is made of jewels.
